Alexandria Shipyard Company (ASY) is one of the largest companies in heavy industries and a pioneer in ship building and ship repair in Egypt and the Middle East. It was established in 1962, then ASY's ownership was transferred to MIASO in 2007. The total yard's land is about 400,000 m2. Ship Building: It has capabilities to build marine units with DW of 57,000 tons. It has built all types of ships to serve all sectors working in the field of maritime, including: Commercial vessels: Bulk Carriers and General Cargo-RORO - Tug Boats-Nile Barges –water and oil tankers. Warships: Frigates- Fast Boats. Special Marine Units: Rigs- accommodation offshore platform -Ferries. ASY has two building inclined berths with the following characteristics: Northern Berth with Length 180 M , Breadth 28 M and DWT 20,000 tons cargo with portal Cranes DWT 90 Tons (3 Off) and Southern Berth with Length 220 M, Breadth 38 M and DWT 57,000 with Gantry Crane DWT 300 tons(1 Off) and portal Crane DWT 25 Tons(2 Off). Ship Repair: Alexandria shipyard provides all repair and mooring services for marine units whether on docks or on quays with DW of 85,000 tons. It has two dry docks with total length of 1200 M equipped for all repair& maintenance works with the following characteristics: Dock No.1 with length 158 M, Breadth 19 M, and DWT 10,000 Tons with Portal Crane 18,12 Tons (1 Off). Dock No.2 with length 267 M, Breadth 39 M and DWT 85,000 Tons with Portal Crane 30,16 Tons(1 Off). ASY has carried out a number of rehabilitation and conversion operations. The most important is the rehabilitation of the floating dock the'' Arabian Sea'', and the conversion of Zain ship (from a refrigerator to livestock carriers) in cooperation with major international oil exploration companies to repair rigs. Heavy Industries: Alexandria shipyard was keen on exploiting its success in the field of ship building of heavy equipment in order to match the needs of the local markets. It has been a pioneer in the field of manufacturing of heavy equipment and production lines for cement factories, and oil & gas exploration companies.
